We work across the ecosystem at every intersection.
We help build maternal health systems that work better for the people who depend on them.
Kinfolk Consulting is a maternal and community health consulting firm working at the intersection of operations, policy, workforce development, and community-based care. We partner with organizations that are trying to solve complex problems in maternal health - from strengthening individual programs to addressing the systems that shape how care is accessed, delivered, financed, and sustained. Our work is grounded in a simple belief: the people closest to the work should help shape the solutions.
That means listening carefully to providers, families, community organizations, and other stakeholders while also examining the policies, payment structures, operational systems, workforce conditions, and institutional relationships surrounding them. Then we help turn what we learn into action.
Community Knowledge Meets Systems Strategy
Kinfolk's work begins with the people experiencing the system firsthand. We use research, stakeholder engagement, interviews, listening sessions, operational assessment, and other forms of inquiry to understand how policies and systems function in real life—not just how they were designed to function. From there, we translate findings into practical strategies.
That may mean helping a client strengthen a maternal health workforce, develop a new program, improve healthcare partnerships, redesign processes, build a birth center, establish reimbursement pathways, develop quality infrastructure, address policy barriers, or create a roadmap for implementation. Our role is to connect what people are experiencing with what organizations and systems can change.
Kinfolk brings a systems perspective to maternal and community health.
Our work may involve:
Maternal health workforce research and development
Community-based maternity care
Birth center development
Strategic and implementation planning
Policy and regulatory analysis
Medicaid, reimbursement, and payer strategy
Provider credentialing and administrative systems
Quality improvement
Data and performance measurement
Interprofessional collaboration
Healthcare systems integration
Organizational operations
Program design and implementation
Stakeholder and community engagement
Technical assistance
Because these issues are interconnected, our engagements often cross more than one area. We focus on recommendations that can actually be implemented—not solutions that look good on paper but ignore the realities of workforce capacity, regulation, funding, organizational culture, or day-to-day operations.
Our Four Commitments.
We bring four things to every engagement:
Listen deeply.
We begin by understanding the people, organizations, and systems involved.
Find the connections.
We look beyond individual symptoms to understand the workforce, policy, operational, financial, and systemic factors underneath them.
Build practical solutions.
Recommendations must account for the realities of implementation.
Stay close to execution.
When appropriate, we help clients move beyond planning and into implementation through technical assistance, process development, and continuous improvement.
